TEACHING PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT:
Students learn best when they are not being taught to take a standardized test. My classroom allows students to learn in a collaborative and supportive learning environment. I encourage independent thinking based on the discussions of unique perspectives and provide creative opportunities for students to be successful not only in the classroom, but in their daily lives.  My hope is that each student will gain confidence in their academic abilities while opening their mind to new information and facing new challenges.

CLASSROOM POLICIES

Responsibilities and Behavior

Your responsibilities in this class are:

  • To attend class regularly;
  • To be on time;
  • To be prepared for class and learning;
  • To meet deadlines;
  • To use your time wisely;
  • To be actively involved as a member of a group;
  • To try your best and word hard; and
  • To be respectful of others and not be disruptive.

 All students are expected to be positive, contributing, respectful members in this class.  Be polite and thoughtful of one another. Any behavior that prevents our class from functioning well or any display of disrespect will not be tolerated and may result in the following: verbal reprimand, contact with parent or guardian, lunch or after-school detention, removal from classroom, referral, or other consequence as determined by school administration.

Absences and Make-Up Work

You are expected to make up any work missed because of any absence. It is your responsibility to get all missed assignments from me or from one of your peers. You will be given two days to make up major assignments. Please note, if the absence is unexcused, the grade will automatically be a zero for the assignment.

Plagiarism/Cheating – Strictly Enforced

Plagiarism, cheating or any form of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Any violation will result in a zero for the assignment grade as well as a disciplinary referral and parent/guardian phone call. Plagiarism detectors will be used for all major assignments.

Arrival and Dismissal

Students are expected to come to class prepared and will begin each class with a bell work assignment provided. No hall passes will be allowed during the first or last 10 minutes of class.

Cellphone Policy – Strictly Enforced

Cellphones and any/all other electronic devices must be TURNED OFF and PUT IN CELLPHONE BOX for the entire duration of the class unless otherwise directed by the teacher. Disciplinary action will be taken if any device is used in the classroom without permission.

Restroom/Nurse/Water Policy

Students are not required to ask permission to go to the restroom/nurse/water; however, there is a proper procedure.  To properly exit the classroom:

  1. Choose an appropriate time (not during the first/last 10 minutes of class).
  2. Check the sign-out sheet to make sure nobody else is currently signed out.
  3. Sign out (date, name, time, destination i.e., RR or restroom).
  4. Grab hall pass.
  5. Go immediately to your destination and come right back.
  6. Sign back in and return quietly to your seat.

Food Policy

No food is allowed during class. You may bring water in a sealed container for class.

***PLEASE NOTE: ANY STUDENT CAUGHT CHEWING GUM IN CLASS WILL HAVE AFTERNOON DETENTION. PARENT WILL BE NOTIFIED AND GIVEN DETAILS OF ARRANGED TIME FOR DETENTION.***
